Attractions in Bangkok City

Wat Phra Kaew and Grand Palace

Almost a must for a visitor to Bangkok! The Grand Palace (พระบรมมหาราชวัง) and the legendary Emerald Temple, or Wat Phra Kaew (วัดพระแก้ว) are located relatively close to Khao San Road, the Democracy Monument and Hualamphong Railway Station.

Go there by taxi, tuk tuk or why not a cheap river boat on the Chao Praya River (to Tha Chang Wang Luang pier). From there it is walking distance to this beautiful temple and the magnificent Grand Palace. It is open at 8.30-15.30, every day.

Wat Pho and the Reclining Buddha

Wat Pho (also known as Wat Phra Chetuphon), is one of the largest (80,000 square meters) and one of the oldest temples in Bangkok. The temple is also home to the 46 meters long Buddha which is covered with gold. Do not forget your camera!

The temple and the reclining Buddha is found at Chetuphon Road and is open every day between the hours of 8:00 and 17:00. The nearest pier on the nearby river is Tha Tien.

Chinatown

Chinese architecture, signs and attributes in a multitude of markets, food and all possible business will meet you at Bangkok's teeming Chinese districts.

Chinatown is one of Bangkok's oldest sites, dating from the end of the 1700's. Yaowarat Road is one of the streets that we recommend you to visit. The Thieves Market (or Nakhon Kasem), has very good prices on electronics, antiques, used goods etc.

National Museum

Enrich your knowledge about Thai history and Thai culture. Here you can walk around alone or with a museum guide.

This museum is located on Na Phra That Road, close to Banglamphu, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho. It is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9.00 am - 4.00 pm.

Muay Thai - Thaiboxing

Thai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand. You shouldn't miss it if you enjoy action sports!

Lumpini Stadium is located on Rama IV Road. Events on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting at 6.30 pm and on Saturdays, starting at 5 pm.

Ratchadamnoen Stadium is located on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue. Fight nights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, starting at 6.30 pm.

The Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan

The Crocodile farm is located a few miles south of Bangkok and is one of the largest crocodile farms in the world. When the 60.000 crocodiles is waiting to end up as fancy shoes or bags (just sarcasm), they perform in spectacular shows. Some monkeys and elephants are also living and performing in this farm.

Snake Farm

Bangkok Snake Farm (Saowapha in Thai) is located on Rama IV Road. Here you will find all kind of snakes and reptiles.

Chao Praya River

The river boat is cheap and you can move quickly in Bangkok. You will also avoid the worst heat and pollution from the traffic. There are many piers along the river from where you can catch on of these river boats.

The Floating Market - Damnoen Saduak

Damnoen Saduak is the Thai name of this floating market. It is often found in international articles and movies about Bangkok showing elderly women in hats selling food and other goods directly from the boats.

The market is situated about 100 kilometers from Bangkok and a feeling of a mild anticlimax is not unique for some visitors who have been traveling for about two-three hours in a minivan to get there.

Lumpini Park

Lumphini Park is a huge green oasis right in the middle of the capital city of Thailand. Perfect if you get bored of cars and crowded streets.

The park has well managed green areas around a small lake in which you actually can take a tour in a rowing boat. Many Bangkok citizens perform their morning gymnastics such as Tai Chi Chuan, strength training or jogging here.

The park is situated close to Rama IV Road and Ratchadamri Road. If you are going by skytrain, get of at Ratchadamri Station and if you are going with Metro, we recommend you to get off at Silom station.

Jim Thompson's House

Jim Thopson was the American who made Thai silk world famous. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1967.

The house is now a museum where you can learn about Jim himself, but also about Thai silk and Thai traditional culture. We strongly recommend a visit.

The house is located on Soi Kasem San 2, close to Siam Square. The nearest skytrain staion is National Stadium.

Baiyoke Tower II

Baiyoke tower is the tallest building in Thailand and one of the tallest in South-East Asia. It has 85 floors and is 304 meters or 997 ft high.

A hotel is situated (book a room here) from the 22th to the 74th floor and there are also a couple of restaurants. On the 84th floor there is an observation deck that we strongly recommend you to visit. Amazing view overlooking the capital.
